Day 1-3: Dig in to the tradition Marostica and San Daniele

Marostica, also known as the ‘’city of the game of chess’’. As a matter of fact, every two years a medieval-themed festival takes place in the town square, where a giant chess game is played with human chess-pieces on a huge chessboard marked upon the paving.

Move towards Bassano del Grappa, town where the famous Italian Grappa, a strong grape-based pomace brandy, was invented and that also has its own museum.

On your route to Udine, stop in San Daniele del Friuli, which gave birth to the mouthwatering San Daniele ham during the Middle Ages. You will have the chance to visit a local ham factory, moreover, the guided tour will end with a ham tasting and a lunch.

Visit Spilimbergo. This town is renowned for its ancient mosaic tradition related to the Roman, Byzantine and Venetian art, and as a matter of fact, it hosts the famous Mosaic school: while visiting this enchanting place you will admire the terrazzo floors and the walls covered with colorful mosaics.

Day 4-5: The charming gems of the Collio Region: Udine and Cividale

Visit the historic center of Udine with the famous squares “Piazzas” all surrounded by porticos.

The guided tour includes a visit to the mediaeval Castle and the Duomo, with its well-preserved frescoes.

Continue to  Cividale in order to experience a wonderful activity: a visit to a traditional bakery where the local dessert “Gubana” filled with dry fruits and soaked in grappa is produced.  Stroll downtown among the ancient medieval and roman vestiges, before heading to a local winery of the Collio region and enjoy a delicious typical dinner paired with a tasing of some local wine.

From Udine region you will move towards your final destination: Trieste.

Along the way, you will be stopping at the Marano Lagoon a natural reserve. Here, you will sail onto a boat tour entering the mouth of the Stella River and go through channels lined with marsh reeds. Your day includes  lunch in a typical “bilancione’’, a fishing hut now become a restaurant which serves local fish and traditional dishes.

Day 6-7: The decadent harbor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire

Discover the city of Trieste once known as the flourishing port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The city is a symbol of elegance and a pillar among Italian intangible heritage thanks to the beautiful blend of diverse European cultures. Led by our professional guide, today you will enjoy a promenade across the streets of the historic center.

Continue to the marvelous Miramare Castle, a 19th– century building surrounded by a dainty botanical garden, overlooking the sea,  and providing you with a breathtaking and romantic view of the Gulf of Trieste.

Crossing the borders of Italy and travel to Slovenia for a marvelous excursion to the Postonja Caves, one of the top tourist attractions of the area, the karst cave system, one of the longest of the world.

The highlight of the guided tour are the Velika Gora cavern, the Magic Garden, and the Russian tunnel.

Day 8-10: Day-trip to the Istrian Peninsula

Explore the neighboring Istrian area for a visit of this region. Starting from Rovinj, also known as the little Venice due to its scenic canals your tour includes the visit of Pula and the magnificent Roman amphitheater.

In Trieste enjoy a dinner in a typical local farm where you will have a great dinner paired with the lovely local wines.

The beautiful historical pillar of Aquileia, a roman ancient town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and which used to be one of the largest and wealthiest cities in the early Roman Empire until it was pillaged by Attila the Hun.

Grado, an elegant seaside town, with narrow streets and little squares bordered by picturesque fishermen’s homes. Grado is known as the island of the sun because its south-facing three kilometers of beaches are never in the shade, and thanks to the area’s macroclimate it is always sunny.
