Days 4-6: Explore the Heavenly Heart of Tuscany

Hike the world-famous Chianti wine area, taking in its scenic vineyards and wineries. Enjoy pievi (old country churches), well-preserved medieval hamlets and sunset-colored castles, sites of centuries-long battles for power over this strategically important area. During a full-day excursion to the city of Siena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, admire its historic Piazza del Campo and the 14th-century Torre del Mangia. At another UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Gimignano, delight in a delicious lunch. Visit Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia region and revel in lovely landscapes dotted with historic villages like Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano. There, taste wine in a celebrated local winery. Move on to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa, a famed landmark in one of Italy’s most ancient cities.

Day 7-10: Chill Out in Cinque Terre

Across five miles of dramatically rocky coastline covered in vineyards, five fishing villages cling dramatically to the cliffs. With a full-day excursion to Cinque Terre, discover this stretch of Italy’s Riviera that oozes heaps of charm. Cars were banned in the UNESCO World Heritage Site over ten years ago, so the pastel-colored marvels can only be visited by foot or boat. Traverse the Via dell’Amore (Path of Love) trail from Riomaggiore to Manarola, the smallest village. Take a short boat trip to storybook Vernazza and wander its narrow alleyways lined with elegantly rustic houses. Perk up the romance and pamper yourself in one of the most spectacular pockets of Italy before saying farewell and heading back to Florence.
