Daniela,
My wife and I wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed the vacation you put together for us. At both Hotel Fanes and Hotel Monika we had spacious rooms with great views in convenient locations, excellent food and service, and superb wine lists. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the skytop pools in both hotels as it’s very unusual for a hotel to have an olympic-sized (25m) pool. As one who swims regularly, this was a special treat. As you forecast, the dietary restrictions were not a problem at all. Our server, without prompting, briefed us every evening on alternative dishes which were not just delicious but beautifully presented.
The rental car was comfortable, performed well in the mountains and was mercifully easy on petrol.
The phone was an invaluable convenience. We even used it on when hiking. I trust it’s safely back in your hands.
We followed your recommendation to drive to Bolzano to view the Otzi exhibition at the SudTirol Museum of Archeology. We were very impressed with both the way the exhibition was arranged and the level of scientific detail supporting the conclusions presented.
Both tri-lingual guides you arranged in San Cassiano (Aaron) and Sesto (Alice) were not just expert in local hiking, they were enjoyable company. Although both took us on challenging hikes, they were very safety-conscious. In Sesto, Alice came to our hotel, unannounced, the night before to involve us in deciding which hike to do the next day. The weather forecast was perfect and we did an 18km, 1100m elevation change hike to the Tre Cime. The segment of the hike between Bullelejoch and Drei Zinnen Hutte was extraordinary.
The Innichen-Lienz bike ride was great fun. Thanks for arranging e-bike rentals. We have hybrid bikes at home and had never used an e-bike before, so this was a new experience. It was a beautiful day and the scenery along the route was gorgeous. We were surprised when the young man who checked us in said we were the first Americans he had ever rented bikes to. On the entire trip, we had encounters with many Italians, Austrians and Germans, but no Americans. It’s almost shocking that an area that’s as fantastic as the Dolomites hasn’t been discovered by our countrymen.
Finally, your choice of Treviso, with easy access to the Venice airport, was a perfect last stop. Villa Oriani was lovely and unique. The problems we encountered there were mostly related to the unusually hot weather and most certainly didn’t spoil one of the best vacations we’ve ever had.
We’re already thinking about doing something in Italy next year. We’ll be back in touch soon.
Again, grazie mille, Kent
