“Buongiorno, Matteo!
It has been three months since our wonderful vacation in southern Italy—sorry it has taken me so long to send you some pictures. My mom, who just turned 98, had health problems while we were away, and her care has taken up much of my time since our return.
So please do not think the delay reflects a lack of enthusiasm or fond memories. Just the opposite. It was a wonderful experience. Just a few quick comments: our guides were terrific. We particularly enjoyed Nicola who showed us wonderful sites, made sure we were fed well, and learned and laughed a lot. We were very pleased with all the hotels. We had no idea what to expect at Castellabate/Cilentro. So we were especially delighted and surprised. I would recommend those destinations. I loved, loved, loved Naples and wish we could have spent at least another day. (Even I ran out of energy and never made it to Capodimonte Museum—good excuse to return!) Unfortunately it rained the day of the walking tour. So that made it a bit of a challenge to really enjoy the Neapolitan sites. We were all delighted with the change in plans you recommended when you learned of the big event one morning in Pompeii. We really enjoyed Ravello, which you recommended we stop at before heading to Pompeii to avoid the crowds. Ravello was just lovely. Probably the one activity I would definitely not do in Amalfi (besides getting seasick, of course) was having a sit-down lunch in the town. We should have just cancelled lunch plans since we weren’t going to have time to go to that hotel with the incredible, scenic view. I think we all would have preferred more walking time in the town. Your providing a cellphone was also a very helpful extra.
As to the Osteria 1861 picture—that was my appetizer which was incredible, as was the rest of the meal. I would definitely recommend that restaurant. Speaking of restaurants, I see now that it wasn’t necessary to make reservations every night. Every restaurant had plenty of room to accommodate the six of us—but then again, it wasn’t the height of tourist season. So I guess that made a big difference, too.
Please keep me on your mailing list once you roll out any new excursions. I have recommended your company to a friend who is planning a return trip to Italy. And of course I will be in touch when we do our next visit to Italia.
