Retracing the “Queen of the Consular Roads”, a fascinating journey through the past to discover the history of our civilisation. The traces of the Imperial era and the catacombs in Rome, the superb Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli, the incredible site of Pompeii. An enthusiastic itinerary across landscapes of extraordinary beauty: the magic of the isle of Capri, the beauty of the Ulysses Coast south of Rome, Umbria and its gentle hills…
ROME – TIVOLI, TERRACINA and SPERLONGA (’Coast of Ulysses’) – NAPLES, POMPEII and HERCULANEUM, CAPRI – SPOLETO and VALNERINA – ASSISI, DERUTA, MONTEFALCO

Right in the heart of the Empire: The Consular Roads connected Rome, the capital of the Empire, to its more remote provinces. Retracing them today, in their well-preserved beauty, not only can their clearly visible glorious past be seen, but also the incredible richness of landscapes, towns and villages waiting to be discovered, along these antique stone roads.
This original itinerary will take you along the most evocative stretch along the “Via Appia”, ‘Regina Viarum’, the Queen of roads: from Rome to Naples. With a detour through the magical landscape of the ‘heart of Italy’, Umbria.
Witness thousands of years of Italian history: the architectural genius of the ancient Romans at the Thermal Baths of Caracalla, the opulence of the Roman empire in Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli, the spirituality of the martyrs buried in the catacombs, everyday life in Pompeii and Herculaneum which came to an abrupt halt in 79 AD with the eruption of the Vesuvius.
And whilst visiting Italy’s glorious past you will experience the Italian way of life in present days: you will be accompanied through buzzing Italian life in a Roman street market. You will discover the thousands of flavours associated with local Italian cuisine and get the chance to taste exceptional wines. Skillfull craftsmen will create their works of art before your eyes.
And furthermore, the picturesque villages of Terracina and Sperlonga, the liveliness of the centre of Naples, the brilliant beauty of Capri, the wild Valnerina and the elegant Spoleto, the magic of Assisi and the Franciscan sites.
